TDIL is proposing to capture the difficulties faced in Indian languages computing across products / solutions / language CDs / Operating Systems / applications and for all kinds of products / solutions available in the market. i.e. free / available on TDIL Data Centre / Other websites / purchased from market / open source.
The goal is to achieve seamless computing as is available for English
for which it is important to capture the problems currently being faced by the users and address these holistically with the cooperation of the stakeholders involved. The major problems faced in the distributed environment may appear to be attributable at a different level perceptionally whereas it is important to diagnose the real cause of the problem and accordingly address it.
Hence, it is very important to capture the use case scenarios so that if any e-mail/ sms when sent and received both the transmitter and the receiver use cases also would be required to be captured. In case of Indian Languages websites, different data needs to be captured which may cover some design aspect also. Hence, it is quite a complex task to identify the problems. However, an attempt is being made by designing a generic form in which users will be requested to give appropriate information which will help us in diagnosing the problem. The problem to the user will be appearing in display whereas the problem may be at the input/ storage or processing stage or may be because of the third party component. The Indian Languages computing is getting matured day by day and it becomes imperative that such a call is taken at the national level so that Indian Languages users also have the uniform user experience irrespective of the platform on which they are working.
Some of the problems which are encountered by the users may be because of the rapid technology changes, changes in the version of Operating Systems, non-compliance with the standards, lack of awareness, lack of the training and many a times because of un-identifiable causes. Font rendering is also one of the major issues which may attribute to a variety of reasons, either font is non-standard or the storage data and font are non-compliant with each other or rendering engine doesn’t have appropriate rendering mechanism or the devices on which the data is being sent is not language enabled etc.
It will be very important to address these issues through consultations with the Vendors / Govt. / Open Source / other stakeholders. No immediate trouble shooting service is being provided, however the complete log of the errors being reported will be available for on-line for better understanding of the problems being faced by the uses across.
The users are encouraged to provide more and more feed back through this service so that this task of national importance can be addressed for the benefit of the community at large.
